Conservation Grants

Funds distributed to conservation organisations from the 2021 charge.

Organisation Amount (ZMW) Purpose
Birdwatch Zambia 315,000 To strengthen education of the birdlife of Zambia through support of school nature clubs, newsletters for schools, habitat protection and enhancement, education talks at 30 schools, school competitions.
Chimfunshi Wildlife Orphanage 80,000 To support the veterinary department by the purchase of a new microscope with teaching capabilities. Support the outreach program for 3 months.
Chipembele Wildlife Education Trust 315,000 To support the Conservation Education Outreach Programme - including 4 Community Conservation Educators (CCEs), a Community Outreach Coordinator and a Conservation Education Manager. The team teaches a total of 630 students and 16 community groups every week in the greater Mfuwe area.
Conservation Lower Zambezi 315,000 To cover costs of 72 children staying at CLZ’s Environmental Education Centre over 3 days, plus the EE Manager’s outreach visits to schools.
Conservation South Luangwa 315,000 To cover costs of the recently formed Human-Wildlife Conflict team and a dedicated Rapid Response Unit for HWC. This work assists communities in life-threatening and livelihood threatening conflicts. This focus on supporting rural communities has been well received.
Elephant Charge Conservation Project 300,000 Funds for working with local communities to conserve one or more of the previous charge sites
Game Rangers International 315,000 To support Education (1000 activity books, 50 teacher guides), Empowerment (womens groups manuals & training), Engagement (Human-Wildlife Conflict awareness materials, radio campaign, material for mitigation projects eg kraals)
International Crane Foundation 315,000 Supporting the expansion and development of the school and community outreach program, purchase and maintenance of equipment, and salary support of staff.
Kasanka Trust 315,000 Used to support the Kasanka Community School and develop Environmental Education in Chitambo District
Livingstone Conservation and Tourism Society 80,000 Formation of an interactive 6-monthly ‘’Road Shows” to support ongoing sensitisation programs. To visibly promote the Community Board Unit as the roadshow ‘provider’’. Use the road show for data collection and data base.
Mark Terken Special Project 65,000 Towards purchase of solar equipment for new veterinary hospital built by Chimfunshi Wildlife Orphanage Trust
Mizu Eco Care 40,000 To support an environmental outreach programme and ecosystem restoration activity in Shiloto village in Kapete Area Chongwe District. This environmental outreach would look at how to reverse deforestation and poor farming practices which are leading to excess vegetation loss.
Musekese Conservation 315,000 Funds go towards upgrading equipment and conditions for the effective conservation & anti poaching team - inlcuding purchase of quadbike and towards second deployment boat.
Wildlife & Environmental Conservation Society of Zambia 500,000 To continue and expand country wide conservation clubs and weekly radio programs, outdoor learning activities, waste clean ups and campaigns, M&E, conservation awards and scholarships.
Zambian Carnivore Programme 315,000 To support conservation biologist field training for young aspiring scientists, many of whom will segue into tertiary education and employment with ZCP. This includes supporting current veterinary students interested in wildlife conservation careers.
